Beatles Project

Graphics for a Hamilton Philharmonic Beatles Show.

A set of graphics designed for projection during the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra's Beatles concert in Feb. 2017. Many thanks to Darcy Hepner, the creative director, composer and conductor for the show, and to the HPO, and Executive Director Diana Weir. The show featured a group of excellent band musicians along with the superb HPO.

The idea was to design supportive images and not distract from the music. An original image was collaged for each song, inspired by the Beatles history and the vast amount of Beatles imagery from the past. The general aesthetic inspiration was the Yellow Submarine film, from which a clip was shown during the overture of the show. I used a few of the Pepperland characters within the images for a thread of continuity and a homage to the great designer Heinz Edelmann's work on that wonderful film. Some of the images contain esoteric parts that hopefully will cater to even the most ardent Beatles fan. For example the arrows pointing to the city of Hamilton are a play off one of the stage sets used when the Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. The concert's bus shelter poster used in the into and outro images is by the HPO.
